Hazardous Materials
Hazardous Materials
Hazardous materials, often characterized by their potential to cause harm to human health or the environment, are strictly prohibited from being disposed of in a dumpster.
These substances may include but are not limited to
- chemicals and solvents,
- batteries,
- automotive fluids such as motor oil and antifreeze,
- asbestos-containing materials,
- medical waste like sharps and contaminated gloves,
- pesticides,
- fluorescent light bulbs containing mercury vapor,
- electronic equipment that could contain hazardous components (e-waste),
- paint cans with liquid paint inside them,
- pressurized containers like propane tanks or fire extinguishers.
The improper disposal of these items poses significant risks; for instance, when combined within the confines of a dumpster, they can lead to chemical reactions resulting in fires or explosions.
